REAP is an acronym for Rural Enterprise Association of Proprietors. It was created out of Cornell Cooperative Extention of Cattaraugus/Allegany Counties.
According to its bylaws, "this organization will bring together individuals who are interested in or involved in rural alternate enterprises for the purpose of exchanging information and sources of supplies; creating a unified voice in government; improving markets throughout Western New York State; and providing a support network for emerging proprietors."
It came into being on June 9, 1988 and the original members sought to collaborate on knowledge sharing, education, and cooperation. One of the key projects that developed as a result of those cooperative efforts was the Farmers Market.
The market has been in operation on a weekly basis at various locations throughout the Olean area, and will begin the 2017 selling season in the Olean Center Mall parking lot out front by the North Union Street entrance.
